I was awaken today at 8:30 AM by a telephone call from UCSF housing. It was complicated, but in the end, I got housing. I will be living in a 2-BR apartment (I don't know who my roommate will be, but at least I have my own room). It will be on the 7th Floor and will look out onto the San Francisco Bay. I'm very excited about this.
I went back to sleep for a couple more hours. Then I woke up and drove up to San Mateo to meet Jason Yu for lunch. He was chaperoning some birthday party, so I got to eat free pizza and drink free soda. Nothing beats the taste of free food.
After lunch, I drove over to Berkeley to meet Hellen Jo. We went to visit the Berkeley Botanical Gardens to view Trudy the Titan (the corpse flower). It was quite massive, something like 6 feet tall. We also went on the right day. Yesterday, it was smelling of rotting flesh. Today, it was in full bloom. And the docent predicted that it would collapse by Saturday, if not earlier. Yay. After viewing the flower, we walked around the gardens and looked at other funky plants.
Following that, we stopped by Amoeba Music. I was hoping that they would have the new Arcana CD, but to my dismay, this Amoeba didn't even have a Gothic/Industrial section. So instead, I ended up getting a French CD : "La Vie en Rose" by Edith Piaf. It's old-style music. Vive la France. Happy Bastille Day.
